Born November 23, 1942. Beloved son to the late Harry and Nora Shea. Brother to the late Joseph and Rita Shea. Husband to his ever-loving wife and best friend Vicki of 57 1/2 years. Father to Michael, Patrick, Mark, Richard and Lori (William). Great friend and brother-in-law to Janet and Mike Salata and John and Mary Crowe. Beloved Poppy to Erin (Lucas), Megan (Michael), Alley, Samantha, Carly, Wyatt, Emily, Kathleen, Jennifer and Nolan (Hannah). Great-Poppy to his 3 darlings, Nora, Delilah and future 2nd baseman in the MLB Thomas. Cherished uncle, cousin and friend to many.
He will be greatly missed and loved forever by all. Michael dedicated his early years to the US Marine Corp, serving 4 years and honourably discharged in 1966. He served time in Iceland during the Cold War before returning home to his awaiting bride Vicki to begin their lives together. Mike took great pride in his military service, right up until the day he died. Sharing many stories with his 5 children and 10 grandchildren about his time served. A member of the CYO Hamilton and avid sports player; Mike coached his children and participated in a variety of sports with passion and a 'go-getter' attitude. A 37-year career within the HWCDSB, Mike made his way to Supervisor of the Printing Department. He held great pride and accomplishment in his work.
Always the 'go-to guy', Mike will be missed by many friends and family. He is welcomed into heaven by his late best friends Danny and Tom. In his last few days here on earth, he was able to peacefully say his goodbyes with his family around his bedside at home. He loved a good Jays game and cheered on the Toronto Maple Leafs until the bitter end. A man of many words and intelligent 'know-it-all' attitude, Mike was always there for you.
He fought hard until the end and showed profound strength and courage throughout his entire life. He loved to share his knowledge and wisdom with all those around him, especially his grandchildren. Poppy - a name termed to him from the unknown, but a name that defined who he was. The games of GO Fish, obscure fact telling, park going and days spent swimming in the pool will forever be remembered by his babies. His best girl Bella will miss the extra treats and bowl of Raisin Bran each morning.
We would like to extend our sincerest thanks and gratitude to all involved in his care over the last few years. Dr. Febrraro, Dr. Juergens, Dr. Okawara and the entire JCC oncology team. Dr. R. Zizzo not only a doctor, but a friend. Danesha Patel NP and the entire medical staff at Winterberry Medical. All of the staff from Bayshore - Katarina and Suzanna, the CCAC allied health staff and St. Elizabeth's E-Shift PSW's. You gave us time that was precious and never taken for granted. W. on Saturday, June 17th at 10 a.m. before resting peacefully for eternity with his family at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery.
