1919 – 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marija, on Saturday March 18, 2017 in her 98th year. Reunited with her beloved husband Josip and daughter Ana Jarmek (2013). She leaves behind her son-in-law Steve Jarmek, who took exceptional care of her ever since she came to Canada in 1970, and especially after the passing of her daughter. She will be missed by her nephew Branko Skot and his family, Barka, Martina and Martin, and by many relatives, friends and kumovi in Croatia and Canada. Marija was a long time member of the Catholic’s Women’s League at Holy Cross Croatian Church. Special thanks to the staff at Orchard Terrace Care Centre for their excellent care. Visitation will take place at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East, Hamilton on Tuesday March 21st, 2017 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 9pm, with Prayers at 7:45pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Croatian Church, 1883 King Street East, Hamilton on Wednesday March 22nd, 2017 at 9:30 am. Interment to take place in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Burlington. If desired, donations to Holy Cross Church would be appreciated.
