The last of her generation of our family, and the last remaining in Quebec, Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Henry George Barrett and Gertrude Barrett (Lemercier), her husband (Ronald Field Smith), and her big brothers George (Joan) and Russell (Florence).
Although she was born in Lachine, Lorraine lived most of her life in Pointe Claire in her home of 66 years. Ronald's dear wife till his passing in 2000, Lorraine was a homemaker and for several years, a data clerk in a medical company. She loved her dogs Major and Mandy (sadly long gone), her antiques and gardening, and enjoyed keeping her trademark long, painted fingernails! Lorraine had a sharp wit (and played a mean game of Scrabble), although she was kind, and had a beautiful smile, which she kept to the end of her life. Several health challenges in the past few years led to Lorraine regretfully selling her home last year and moving to a retirement home in Ontario, near two of her nieces. Over the last year and a half, her health deteriorated as a result of two serious falls, leading to her passing in hospice care.
Lorraine will be sadly missed by her eleven nieces and nephews, Lynn, Greg, Rick, Marion, Tricia, Julie, Janet, Jay, John, Paul and Susan, their children and grandchildren, as well as her friends and neighbors. The family is grateful for the dedicated care given to Lorraine by the staffs of Summit Heights Retirement Residence and Emmanuel House hospice. Anyone wishing to honour Lorraine's memory may donate to The Lung Association.
A service honouring the life of Lorraine Smith will be held on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, at St. Stephens Anglican Church, 25 12th Avenue, Lachine, Quebec. Visitation from 2:00 p.m., with the service at 2:30 p.m.
