TRUTY, Josephine Mary. Devoted to faith, family and friends... Passed away peacefully February 7, 2014, at her home at Cawthra Gardens LTC at the age of 94, with family by her side. Josephine, a long time resident of east-end Hamilton, was an active member of St. John the Baptist RC Church. She always held close to her faith and her love of God. When her three children were growing up, she joined the PTA and then became actively involved with the Catholic Women's League of Canada where she served for 60 years, enjoying the role of Social Director and years of close friendships. She took pleasure in running social events and she managed them expertly. Josephine was greatly respected and honoured for her many years of service. She always enjoyed entertaining and every holiday was a joyful celebration with family and friends. She loved to bake and had a knack for desserts; her apple pies were popular at every church bazaar. She was also an avid bowler and won many Christmas turkeys on the St. John's Bowling Team. Josephine loved to travel and her involvement with the Senior's Leisure Club had her organizing bus tours throughout Ontario, Quebec and the U.S. But one of her greatest loves was music. She sang in the church choir, played her classical music and enjoyed attending concerts, theatre, ballet and opera whenever she could. She gave her family a special appreciation for music. Josephine loved life and she will be deeply missed by her family; daughters Marie (Richard Nelson), Evelyn (Leon Meslin) and son Tom (Susan); grandchildren Andrew and Sarah (Brian Downey) and great-granddaughters Amelia and Gloria, as well as numerous relatives and friends. She is pre- deceased by her husband Henry Truty to whom she shared her life and love for over 60 years. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Cawthra Gardens LTC; they were a blessing for their kindness and care, as well as their friendship. Family and friends are welcome to visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King St. East (at Kenilworth) on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Vigil prayers on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. John The Baptist Church, on Monday, February 10, 2014 at 11 a.m. Interment at Holy Sepulchre cemetery to follow.
