Jose "Joe" Fernandes Gonzalez

July 17, 1932 - March 29, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jose Gonzalez on March 29, 2025, in his 93rd year.

Jose is survived by his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Teresa, his daughters Lisa and Nancy, and his cherished granddaughter Cassidy. He is also remembered by his children from a previous marriage, Jose Manuel, Celso, Maria Jesus and Sonya.

Born in Galicia, Spain, Joe was deeply proud of his Spanish heritage, with a lifelong love for its culture, traditions, and landscapes. He spent his early years there before setting off on many adventures, working as a bosun on merchant ships and traveling the world before settling in Oakville, Canada. He had a long and dedicated career as head caretaker with the Halton District School Board before enjoying a quiet and comfortable retirement.

Visitation will be held at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East, Hamilton on Thursday, April 3rd from 4pm – 8pm. Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, April 4th, 2025 at 10:30am. Entombment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery, Hamilton.

Special thanks to the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their compassionate care during his final days.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

As Joe often said, “C'est la vie.”
