Wrapped in the loving arms of his beloved daughters, Jen Whitehead and Amy Thorne, and his nephew, Tom Curtis. Born in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, John made Hamilton, Ontario his home. Employed at Stelco for over 30 years. Predeceased by his parents, Norman and Zelma McKinnon and his best friend and Sister Jan Curtis (late Danny Curtis). Endlessly proud and loving Father of his girls, Jen (Steve) and Amy. Beloved Grandpa of Mason, Ava, Rhys, Makenna and Evan. Survived also by his siblings, Sharon (Joel), Chris (Sylvia), Daren (Hutoxi.) Fondly remembered by the Mother of his girls, Wendy McKinnon, many loving nieces, nephews, countless close friends and most especially, his adoring Lucy.
A gentle, empathetic spirit who enjoyed nothing more than a day spent watching his treasured Blue Jays. A prolific, if secretive, writer, sketcher, observer, serial antiquer and music lover whose pursuits of these passions fueled his beautiful mind. The family wishes to thank the Nurses and Doctors at St. Joseph's Hospital ICU for their compassion and care given to John during his time spent. Thank you Justin. In keeping with John's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at CRESMOUNT FUNERAL HOME, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton, Ontario, on Saturday, December 3rd, 2022, between the hours of 12 noon and 4 pm. All are welcome to pay their respects. A Celebration of John's Life for invited family and dear friends will follow the visitation at his Daughter Jen's home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Hamilton SPCA. Online condolences can be left at cresmountfennellchapel.com
