Joan Lancaster

Joan had a lovely voice, sang at her granddaughter’s wedding and was a long-time choir member of the Geritol Follies and also the Sackville Seniors.

Nana is survived by her daughter Marlene (John), grandchildren Rachel, Sarah (Sean), Jennifer (Mike) and Sean (Leah), great grandchildren, Stephanie, Ryan, Jack, Sarah, Andrew, Matthew, William and Jolene, and in Lancashire, niece Roma and nephews David and Johnny.

Joan can now join her beloved husband Norman who died in 2013, and siblings Lawrence and Eileen.

Joan Woodham was born in Sheffield, England to Walter Woodham and Lillian Turner. Lillian lived to age 97. During WWII, Joan served as a Leading Aircraftwoman (LACW), from 1942 to 1945. It was in the RAF stationed at Coningsby that she met and married Norman Lancaster, who serviced Lancaster bombers.

In 1956, Joan and daughter Marlene sailed on the Carinthia from Liverpool to Quebec, then by train to Hamilton to join Norman who had emigrated a year earlier and was employed at Stelco. For several years, Joan was one of the lovely, white-gloved ladies who worked the gates on the old Eaton’s elevators. Later she worked at Birk’s Jewelry store until she retired. Joan and Norman enjoyed many years together sharing their love of dancing and music, and later some sea cruising.

Resting at Cresmount Funeral Home, Fennell Chapel, 322 Fennell Ave. E, Hamilton for visitation on Sunday, November 20, 2022 from 4-4:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel at 4:30 p.m.
