(nee Lane)
Surrounded with love, our Joan left
this life on Friday, May 23, 2014 at
St. Peter's Hospital to be reunited
with loved ones passed. Joan was a
"Lancashire Lassie" born in Rochdale,
England April 1, 1921 to Charles and
Gertrude Lane. She immigrated to
Canada in 1924 and married the love
of her life, Russ, on December 12,
1942. During the war years, Joan
lived in Prince Rupert, B.C. where
Russ served in the Signal Core. They
returned to Hamilton in 1945 where
they raised three daughters. Mom
and Dad lived in Sudbury during the
'70s and '80s where Joan became a
volunteer in Telecare and the Rape
Crisis Centre. During retirement years
(in Hamilton), Joan became an
escort volunteer at the Henderson
Hospital Cancer Centre (now the
Juravinski Cancer Centre). Joan was
a founding member of Pioneer
Memorial United Church and for
over 60 years, a UCW member at
Pioneer Memorial and Emmanuel
United Church in Hamilton. Mom
always said her life was enriched
when she married Dad. They shared
a happy life together travelling and
cultivating friends along the way.
Mom was fortunate to have many
life-long friends and she treasured
each and every one of them. Joan
was cherished and will be deeply
missed by her husband Russ of 71
years, daughters Kerrie Russell,
Heather Bridle (Ray) and Shelley
Cherry (Andrew) as well as her six
grandchildren Michael Russell
(Christine), Brian Russell, Steve Bridle
(Julia), Kathy Bridle, Lauren Doherty
(Mark) and Stephanie Cherry. Mom
was so proud to say she had seven
great-grandchildren. We take comfort
in knowing that Mom's suffering
has ended and she is in God's care.
We will surely miss our Mom's smile,
sincerity and her comforting words
and love. Cremation has already
taken place. A celebration of Joan's
life will be held in the "Meadow
Lounge" at "Meadowlands
Retirement Home", 1248 Mohawk
Rd. W., Ancaster ON, on Thursday,
May 29th at 10:30 a.m. A private
family committal service will take
place at White Chapel Memorial
Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please
consider a donation to Dr. Bob
Kemp Hospice, Pioneer Memorial or
Emmanuel United Church, Hamilton.
If so desired, on-line condolences
may be made at
"The hardest part of love
is letting go"
