Born in Chelsey, Bruce County on April 3, 1916, Jean died peacefully on June 5, 2014 at St. Peter’s at Chedoke, Hamilton. Jean was the daughter of the late James Crerar and Ethel Colwell and devoted wife of the late Robert Bellamy (1987). She leaves her loving daughter, Patricia of Toronto, and her other daughter, welcomed with love, Sylvia Simpson of Hamilton. Jean is predeceased by her five brothers: John (Lena), Cunningham, Wilfred (Frances), Robert (Mary), Cameron (Nora Crerar of Ottawa), and her three sisters: Elizabeth (John Brown), Isabell (Ross Jones), and Alexandria/Polly (Arthur Toogood). Jean worked in the Home Care Office of the Victoria Order of Nurses and served as a volunteer at the Mountain unit of the Canadian Cancer Society and the Cancer Assistance Program (CAP). Jean’s interests were centered on her family, home, and church. She nurtured a deep faith and was a long time member of Centenary United Church where she served as one of the first women elders. Jean was quiet and reserved in her ways, an avid reader, a lover of opera, and a keen follower of current events. She always had a project on hand, from baking, sewing, or knitting to learning something new. Thanks to the staff at Birch Terrace, St. Peter’s at Chedoke, for their care and compassion. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3-6pm at Cresmount Funeral Home, Fennell Chapel, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton, where the Funeral service will be held on Wednesday June 11, 2014 at 1pm. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to Centenary United Church, the Hamilton SPCA, or a charity of your choice.
