Peacefully, at Extendicare, Hamilton, Jean left this life and the burden of Alzheimer's disease behind. She had a full and exemplary life and was loved and admired by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her beloved husband William (Willie), 1986, her daughter Isabel Lowe, 1998, and her son-in-law Dr. William (Bill) Awery, 2010. Left to remember her, her life and many accomplishments are her oldest daughter Marion Awrey, her youngest sister Elizabeth, son-in-law Robert Lowe, her grandchildren William Awery (Laura), Wendy Peng (Leif), Margaret Awrey (Gary Moerenhout) and John Awery (Brenda). Susan Hughes (John), Donna Carbell (David) and Mark Lowe (Paula). Her great-grandchildren, Meredith, Will and Abigail Awrey, Duncan and Simon Peng, Emily, Jess and Josh Moerenhout and James Awery. David and Erin Cunningham, Rob and Aiden Hughes, Jack and Ben Carbell and Julia, Bobby and Grace Lowe. Jean and her daughters left their home in Bannockburn, Scotland in 1949, Willie, the year before, to make a new home in Hamilton. They joined the congregation of St. Columba Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir and was an elder until she was 90 years old. The middle child of 10 girls and one boy, her sisters Marion (Minnie), Margaret, Isabel, Martha, Agnes, Gemima (Mima), Mary and their spouses, Dorothy and brother David and brother-in-law Harry predeceased her. She leaves many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends in Canada, Scotland and England with their fond memories of her. All will remember her many beautiful quilts and will cherish them. Our heartfelt thanks goes to her devoted doctor, Irene Tuttle and the staff at Extendicare for their compassion and care. The family will recieve friends at TRUSCOTT, BROWN & DWYER FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1309 King Street East (at the Delta, opposite Gage Park) on Thursday, October 21, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Her funeral service will be held on Friday, October 22, 2010 at 10 a.m. at St. Columba Presbyterian Church, 1540 Main Street East at Weir Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, St. Columba Memorial Fund or the charity of choice.
