Jim was born in Aberdeen Scotland where he served in both the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy, including two years in Korea fighting for the British Commonwealth Forces. He married the love of life Margaret (predeceased) in 1956 and they had their first daughter (Lynn). In 1960, he moved his family to Canada and there they had their second daughter (Laura). Family was most important to Jim, and he leaves behind his two daughters, Lynn (Weldon) and Laura (Tino), five grandchildren, Sara, Michael, Jessica, Nicholas and James, and seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Jessie-Lynn, Isabelle, Alexander, Lila, Ira and Iona. Jim was proud of his union membership at Local 1005 as a Stelco employee and over the years was a volunteer with the HMCS STAR sea cadet corps, an active participant with the Roxborough Park Presbyterian Church, Legion Branch 58 and the Korean War Veterans Association - Unit 26. The family would like to thank those connected to the Korean War Veterans for their support during Jim’s last days. Jim was passionate about the power of education, and we would invite you to donate in his honour to the Hamilton Foundation for Student Success, which is committed to the removal of financial barriers to learning for HWDSB students. The family is at peace knowing that he has crossed the bar for the last time and has moved into the loving arms of his beloved Margaret.
