He is survived by his loving wife Marica (nee Pocrnic) of 54 years and was a devoted and proud father (Dedi) to Bobby, Lori Pavela (Michael) and Johnny (Josipa) and was adored by his beautiful grandchildren Maria, Martina, Ante, Filip, and Lana. Ivan is predeceased by his parents Blaz and Ana (Cuka) Rukavina, and brother Nikola (late Marija). He will be forever missed by his siblings, Ana Pocrnic (Dane), Mande Pocrnic (late Luka), Joja (Katica), and his brother-in-law Ivica Sopcic (late Dragica) and sister-in-law Ankica Boros (Janko), as well as by his many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends here and in Croatia.
Ivan was born in Konjsko Brdo, Perusic, Lika, Croatia and immigrated to Canada in 1968, in the footsteps of his sisters. He was a loyal and hardworking man, retiring from Dofasco in 2004 after 36 years of service.
Ivan had a most generous and loving heart. He befriended all that he met and selflessly gave his time, energy, and love to anyone who needed it, whether it was his family or even a stranger in the street. He has been an incredible role model to all who knew him and leaves behind a great legacy of love that will remain forever in the hearts of all who cherished him.
Visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East, Hamilton on Sunday from 2-4 pm and 6-9 pm. Vigil Prayers at 8 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Croatian Catholic Church, 1883 King Street East, Hamilton on Monday, December 18, 2023 at 11 am. Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, and in honour of Ivan’s life, those who wish may contribute to a donation, which will be forwarded by the family to a charity in his beloved Lika, Croatia.
