It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear and gracious Mother, Irene Maria Judd RN (Slavinskas) in her 89th year. Predeceased by her father, mother, brother and husband. She leaves behind her son Paul and daughter Dalia (Kevin) Small. Graduated from Brant General in 1952, worked in Hamilton and Toronto, later years part time in nursing homes and at the CNIB. She volunteered for many organizations including the Lung Association. Came to Canada after World War 2. She celebrated 70 years this past January. She met her good friend Agatha Ratavicius in a war camp 75 years ago. She made lots of friends in the Lithuanian community as well as in Canada. Mom always had a smile to show, a kind work to say and interested in the lives of her friends and neighbours; like her classmate Jean Hill whom she attended many Brantford General nurses reunions with and her swimming pals from St. Joseph's Villa for 24 years will miss her outgoing nature. Family was very important to her during her full life. There were many treks to visit relatives in London, Ont., and the US. A gentle soul, she loved her family, an elegant lady who was stylish, especially wearing hats when she attended mass. It's a tradition still followed. Pastimes included drives in the country, visiting the rock garden and lilac dell at the RBG, theatre, listening to classical music, opera, reading biographies having lunch with friends and shopping, not always in that order! A heartfelt thank you to the many staff at the Step Down Surgical ward/CCU at St. Joseph's Hospital for their compassionate care. As per Mom's wishes, there will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. There will be a Celebration of Life Mass at Canadian Martyrs Church on Main St. West on Saturday November 30th at 11:00 a.m. Private burial to take place at a later date with family.
