George Marcus Massey

Peacefully passed away, surrounded by the love of his family, on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at Macassa Lodge, just shy of his 87th birthday. Predeceased by his wife Carol Ann. Loving Dad of Jeffrey (Catherine) Massey, Christina Dertringer and Heather Solomon (Robert Krupica). Cherished and proud Papa of Alec (Tracey) Turcotte, Brent (Natasha) Massey, Trisha (Shawney) Dertinger, Austin (Danielle) Massey, Gregory (Jessica) Solomon, and Devin Dertinger, as well as great-grandchildren Liam, Aiden, Isla, Beckham, Quentin, and Camila. Dear brother of Mary (the late Howard) Mitchell, Isabel (Bill) Conley, Evelyn (Jim) Carlaw, James (Barb) Massey, the late Denton Massey, and the late Andrew Massey. Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.

George was a devoted educator, beginning his teaching career at the age of 19, and moving his way up to Principal, the role he retired from. He was a charismatic, outgoing, gifted speaker who made friends throughout each path of his life. He loved boating, bonfires, swimming, and fishing and spending time up North at the family cottage. He worked on a tobacco farm in his youth, and held many different skills and attributes. He took great pride in his work, regardless of the role.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on George’s birthday, Monday, April 7, 2025 at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Ave. E. Hamilton at 1 p.m. Family and friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the service time. A private interment will be held at Mount Hamilton Cemetery.
