Dr. Elizabeth Joan Latimer

Peacefully passed away after a sudden illness at the Juravinski Hospital on Saturday, April 28, 2012 in her 68th year. Beloved wife of Willem Kamphorst, she will be sadly missed by his daughters Judy and Michelle and their families (in USA). Cherished sister of Marilyn and Robert, Barbara, and Douglas and Dorothy. Dear aunt of Andrea and Tyler and their children, and Spencer and David. She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends. Dr. Elizabeth Latimer is a prominent palliative-care physician with the Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation and a former nurse. The Hamilton doctor has cared for thousands of dying patients in her 39 year career, and she also lectures on palliative care to medical and nursing students at McMaster University. She also lectured in South Africa, South America, US, Canada, Kuala Lumpur, Australia and Saudi Arabia and attended lectures in Oslo, Zurich, Amsterdam and Oxford. Friends may call at the Marlatt Funeral Home, 615 Main Street East (east of Sanford), Hamilton, on Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, 70 James Street South (at Jackson St.), Hamilton, on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dr. F. Shaffer officiating. Cremation to follow. Memorial donations may be made to Palliative Care Trust Fund, Hamilton Health Sciences-General Hospital Site. The family thanks the nurses on Wards 8 West (HGH), and C3 (Juravinski Hospital), and Dr. C. Davis, Dr. S. Hotte, and Dr. E. Mantle for their support and compassion toward Liz and her family. We are deeply grateful.
