It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Mom, Dorothy Shields on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. Mom was in her 85th year. Mom passed away at home surrounded by her loving family. She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband and soul-mate, Len Shields on February 2, 2011. Loving and dearly devoted mother of Bryan (Sandy), Carl (Sue) and Paul (Karen). Dear sister of Helen Tweedie (Jim), and Kay Phillips (Jack). Predeceased by her sister Mary Embleton and her parents Archie and Mary Ayers. Cherished Nana of Aleisha (Ethan), Paul, Lindsey, Scott, Ian, Meghan, Jena and Ryan. Great-Nana to Avery and Rylee. Dear sister-in-law to Jim Shields (Jean), Carl Shields (Carol) and Marguerite Wood (Earl). Loved by her many nieces and nephews.
Our Mom celebrated her faith at Mount Hamilton Baptist Church for over 75 years. As well as being a loving wife and mother, our mom was an avid reader, gardener and sports enthusiast. She was a caring and compassionate Grandma and loving sister, sister-in-law and loyal friend. Mom had a very strong faith, and a strong sense of social justice. She will be sorely missed for her amazing sense of humour, and her deep devotion to her family and church.
The Shields’ family would like to extend special thanks to the following individuals and agencies: Leslie from the Community Care Access Centre, Lori (VON), Jean (Dell Pharmacy), Tasha (Heritage Household Services), the Cancer Assistance Programme (CAP), as well as Dr. S. Macaluso and his staff, Pat and Denise. God bless you all for your professionalism and support. Thank-you to family, friends, neighbours and the church community for your continued love and support.
Visitation will be held at CRESMOUNT FUNERAL HOME, 322 Fennell Ave. East on Friday, Feb. 24th, 2012 at 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral Service to take place on Saturday, Feb. 25th, 2012 at Mount Hamilton Baptist Church, 626 Upper Wentworth Street (across from Value Village and Harvey’s) at 10:00am. Cremation to follow.
