It is with profound sadness, overwhelming grief, and disbelief that we announce the unexpected passing of Donald Jackson on August 12, 2022, at the age of 70, after sustaining a head injury from a fall while celebrating his 43rd wedding anniversary in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Don was born in Toronto and was predeceased by his parents, William and Nelda Jackson. He will forever be missed by his wife Judy (née Haggarty) of Hamilton, formerly of Powassan, Ontario and then Toronto, and his sister Pam Jackson of Newmarket. Upon completing his B.A. in History and his B.Ed. in Business Studies in 1977, Don taught in Windsor, Kapuskasing, and Hamilton before accepting, in 1989, a position as a business teacher with the then Etobicoke Board of Education. He remained there for the duration of his career and, although working in Toronto, chose to live in Hamilton and commute until his retirement in 2012. Don was an avid reader and loved going to the theater, particularly enjoying Theatre Aquarius, the Shaw, Stratford, and the Lighthouse Theatre in Port Dover. He will be remembered for his quick wit, his generosity, his determination, and his love of learning and teaching. One of his greatest joys was combining spending time with friends while, ever the teacher, sharing his knowledge with them – especially his knowledge of history, law, and wine. Cremation has taken place and, in accordance with his wishes, no service is being held. If desired, a donation in his honor to a charity of your choice would be welcomed and appreciated.
