Diane Leighton

It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Diane on Sunday, February 3, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born April 4, 1955 in Hamilton, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Jean Leighton.

Beloved companion and best friend of Gary Rattie, loving sister to Nancy Kostecki (David), adored aunt of Peter Kostecki (Megan) and Amanda Smith (Jeremy). Forever cherished by many great nephews and nieces. Diane is predeceased by her brother Butchie (Howard John) and sister Debbie.

Diane was an employee of The Hamilton Spectator for the past 39 years. She also enjoyed her part time job for more than 20 years at Copps Coliseum as the Usher Supervisor. A special thank you to Dr. R. Tozer and Dr. Susan Gudelis and staff at Juravinski Cancer Centre. Also to the staff at Brantford General Hospital, Ward C7 for their care.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation and cremation has taken place. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

God saw she was getting tired and a cure was not to be.

So God put his arms around her and whispered, "Come with Me"

With tearful hearts we watched her fade away,

Although we loved her deeply we could not make her stay.

A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands put to rest,

God broke our hearts to prove that he only takes the best.
