Danica Podrebarac was born on November 11, 1939 in the village of Jurovo, Croatia to parents Nikola and Barbara Jurkaš. She leaves to mourn her loving husband Nikola, with whom she shared 63 wonderful years of marriage and her cherished children Jerry with spouse Anita and Violet Sepettchiev, both of whom were her greatest source of pride. There was not a sacrifice that Mama would not have made to make their lives easier during both their younger years and well into their adulthood.
Baka was adored by her grandchildren Alyssa, Ayden and Jenna Podrebarac, as well as by Christopher and Sofia Sepettchiev, all of whom she welcomed wholeheartedly into her loving arms and was happiest knowing she was able to provide their favorite dishes at their many family dinner gatherings.
Dear sister to Ljubica Radman (Josip) of Croatia and dearest sister-in-law to Ankica (Jure ) Jurkaš of Croatia, the late Jure (Marica) Podrebarac, Ivan (Ana) Podrebarac, and Ljubica (Frank) Jurkaš of Connecticut, USA, all of whose lives she touched with kindness. She will be dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews, Kumovi and friends in both Canada and Croatia; her many neighbours will miss Danica’s friendly face and warm greetings from her front porch.
Upon immigrating to Canada with her husband and young children in 1971, Danica continued to practice her strong Catholic faith as a devout parishioner of Holy Cross Croatian Parish where she and Nikola attended weekly masses and supported its many parish activities. As a hard-worker with an impeccable work ethic, Danica retired from Fearman’s (Maple Leaf Food) after 25 years of dedicated service. Danica will be remembered for her kindness, gentle smile, humbleness, generosity and loving heart. She loved to engage in a friendly conversation, a game of cards, and of course, prayer, but most of all, she loved to provide for her beloved family, and has left a legacy of love and admiration. Special thanks to the exceptional and compassionate home-care staff from CBI Home Health, Bayshore Nursing and especially to RN Clarissa and Occupational Therapist Rhodine. Mama, you lived humbly and quietly, and have died the way you lived, with dignity, peace and with a strong trust in God. May you Rest In Peace and know that you will forever and lovingly remain in our hearts.
