Passed away surrounded by his loving family at Idlewyld Manor in Hamilton, ON, on February 22, 2023 in his 89th year. Beloved husband of Theresa (nee Romano) for 58 years. Cherished father of Maria (James), Rita (Pino) and DeAnna. Loving and proud Nonno of grandchildren James, John, Carmine, Alyssa, Raejean and Donavan. Predeceased by his parents Francesco and Maria Joanna Figliola and son-in-law of the predeceased Anthony and Mary Romano. Dear brother to his late siblings Anna Maria and Donato Sabatino, Carmela and Leonardo DeMaria, Giuseppe and Rosaria Figliola, Fausto and Theodora Figliola, Matteo and Lucia Figliola, John Rosato, and Michael Giardino. He is survived by sister Lucia Rosato and sister-in-law Mary Lou Giardino. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the U.S., Canada, Italy and Australia. Antonio was born in Roseto Valfortore, Italy and immigrated to Canada in 1954, at the age of nineteen. He took his knowledge of farming from Italy to Canada, and passionately turned the soil to produce beautiful gardens. Antonio enjoyed providing for his family and sharing his bounty with others. Antonio was an excellent handyman and skilled welder, employed for eight years at Ironworks and 32 years at Dofasco. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the members of the Pope John Paul II neighbourhood Rosary Group for all their prayers of hope. Thank you to all family, friends and neighbours for your kindness and support. Special thank you to the staff at the Hamilton General Hospital and Juravinski Hospital Cancer Centre for their exceptional care. We would like to recognize our extended family at Idlewyld Manor for the love and care their dedicated staff provided to Antonio and our family.
Visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Tuesday February 28 from 5-8pm with Prayers at 5pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Eugene Catholic Church, 232 Queenston Rd, on Wednesday March 1 at 10am. Burial to follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hamilton Health Sciences and Idlewyld Manor.
