Will be greatly missed by numerous friends and good neighbours.
Alvin was born and raised in Chudleigh Path, Manchester, Jamaica in 1934. At a young age he became fascinated with automobiles and became an apprentice mechanic. At the age of 23, he set sail on a month-long boat ride to England where he perfected his trade. Alvin arrived in Canada in 1965 and settled in Hamilton, Ontario. Shortly after, he met his wife-to-be Joyce, at a chance meeting on his lunch break. They married in 1968 and started a family. Continuing his career path, Alvin worked for Ford Motor Company in Oakville for 29 years until his retirement in 1995 as a Quality Control Inspector. As a self-taught architect and craftsman, Alvin designed and built his dream house which became a welcoming home for decades. He enjoyed tending to his gardens, usually at the crack of dawn. For decades his favourite hobby was working on and restoring vehicles and preparing them for sale. Alvin was very handy, doing almost everything himself; plumbing, welding, electrical, woodworks, and mechanical. A totally committed member and elder of Chalmers Presbyterian Church, now amalgamated with Trinity. Alvin will be remembered for his booming voice which served him well as a choir member for 25 years, his sense of humour, as well as his words of wisdom, “It’s not how much you earn, it’s how much you save”. Alvin was called from this life into the promised inheritance of ever-lasting life in the presence of his Lord Jesus Christ. Special thanks to the caring staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
