Bishop, Ruth W., age 97, of Mason, Ohio, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024. She was born April 12, 1924 in Hamilton, Ohio to Bertha and William Walke. Ruth was a 1945 graduate of Hamilton High School. Ruth attended Front Street Presbyterian Church in Hamilton for 18 years, she became a member of the Mason United Methodist Church in 1986 where she attended until her adventures took her travelling out West. Ruth had an admirable work ethic and worked at Fisher Body after attending business school. After raising her children, she worked and retired from Schroeder Manor. It did not take her long for her to decide that retirement did not suit her and proceeded to work another ten years at Walmart. She was widely traveled, and along with her sister-in-law Phyliss Morgan, they spanned the globe from Russia to Hawaii, and took regular trips to New York City to see Broadway shows. In between trips, she was a regular at the Mason Community Senior Center, where she played cards and enjoyed potlucks. Mostly, she was known of her zest for life, and her fondness for celebrations. She was reliably the best New Years Eve host for her granddaughters, was not afraid to buy her daughter a horse, or her son a motorcycle and bass guitar. She and her sister held what would now be considered classic 1960’s cocktail parties. They also started the family tradition of heading to Timberwood Lake in Kentucky on the weekends, to swim, fish, and most importantly bob.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Patrick H. Bishop; and sister, Dorothy Nantz.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Ruth A. Wilkens (Herb); son, Patrick J. Bishop (Sharon); grandchildren, Gwendolyn (Matt), Madelyn, Scott, and great grandchildren; Gavin, Jax. She will be loved and cherished by a host of family and friends.
