Richard Dale Pottenger, Jr, known as Rich, was surrounded by his family when he peacefully went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 10:34 AM. Rich was born on October 3, 1979 to Judy (Gray) and Richard Pottenger Sr. in Hamilton, Ohio. He was an active member in his community and enjoyed many activities with his family. Growing up, he played baseball for the Challenger League, participated in the Special Olympics winning bronze, silver and gold medals in various competitions, and was even chosen to carry the torch during opening ceremonies. He loved going to church and enjoyed singing his favorite gospel song “I'm Ready To Go”. He also enjoyed playing pool, bowling, fishing, shooting hoops, vacationing and his all time favorite WWE Wrestling. Rich was a 1998 graduate from Hamilton High School and a beloved member of the Charleston Club where he made many friends. In 2023, he was the recipient of the Unsung Hero Award. He was also an honorary coach at Lindenwald Baseball where his nephews play ball. Rich has touched the lives of many in his short life and made numerous friends throughout his journey. Anyone who met him, immediately loved him. He was kind, gentle and had a loving spirit. His infectious smile lit up any room and he never gave up despite his many obstacles. He has inspired those around him with his “I got this” attitude; that was his calling in life. At the heart of Rich though, was his everlasting love for his family, “first baby” and his five nephews. His greatest joy was the simplicity of life and the unbroken bonds of his close knit family. Rich's legacy is carried on by his loving parents Richard Sr. and Judy Pottenger, sister Amber Davidson, brother Brian (Nicole) Pottenger and his cherished nephews Tim, Matthew and Aaron Davidson, and Brayden and Jace Pottenger as well as half brother Mark Brockman and family. Visitation will be held Thursday February 29, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Rose Hill Funeral Home in Hamilton, Ohio with the service to honor the life of Rich immediately following at 11:00 AM. Craig Hale will be officiating. Serving as pallbearers are his brother Brian Pottenger, three nephews Tim, Matthew and Aaron Davidson and Uncles James and Brian Gray. Honorary pallbearers are his friends Jason Lawson and Stanley Wyatt. Rich's life is a testament to the power of love, the strength of family and the impact one person can have on the world around them. He will be greatly missed, but the memories he created will always be a source of comfort and inspiration to those who knew him. To have known Rich is to know pure love. A very special thank you to Doctor Arun Sendilnathan, Nurse Practitioner Christine Leake and all of Rich's girls of the Oncology team at Fort Hamilton. A very special thank you as well to the ICU at Fort Hamilton, especially Nurse Tiffany, and the 5N nursing staff at Kettering Main. You took him in, cared for him and loved him like family. The bond you shared will be treasured forever. Rich, you have been a blessing to us all and your memory will forever be cherished. I am so proud to be your sister and I will carry you with me wherever I go. Sissy so loves you.
