

Mary Lou (née Kruthoffer) Hammond, 76, of Hamilton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2025. Born on October 16, 1948, in Huntington, West Virginia to Robert E. and Mary Y. Kruthoffer, Mary Lou lived a life characterized by warmth and dedication to those she loved. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Hammond; her parents, Robert E. and Mary Y. Kruthoffer; and her brother, Robert E. Kruthoffer Jr. She is survived by her step-daughters, Li Griffin and Audrey Hammond; nephews, Robert E. Kruthoffer III, Thomas K. Kruthoffer, Mark Kruthoffer, and Jay Kruthoffer; as well as many dear friends, including a close-knit girl gang from college who called themselves the SASAs ("St. Andrews Sisters Always"). Mary Lou was a graduate of Huntington High School in West Virginia and a graduate of St. Andrews College in North Carolina. She later obtained her degree in Library Science from the University of Kentucky. She built a successful career as a Personnel Manager in the corporate world before meeting the love of her life, Jerry Hammond. After meeting Jerry, Mary Lou created an idyllic life with him at their picturesque home in rural Versailles, Kentucky, where they shared many happy years together. Jerry and Mary Lou were active in Kentucky politics but found time to enjoy life on their boat, the ROBERT E., and treasured their time together as part of the Sunnyside Boat Club. Private Interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Frankfort, Kentucky. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Woodford Humane Society (www.woodfordhumane.org).
