Lois Catherine (Adair) Jones, age 92 of Fairfield, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 15, 2024. Lois was born two months earlier than expected on July 1, 1931 in Hamilton, the only surviving child of her parents, the late William Nicholas and Doris Odell (Baker) Adair. From her start as a preemie up until the last moments of her life, she was a tough ol’ gal and truly a survivor. Lois was even referred to as a “Miracle Child” after contracting polio, not being able to walk, and then miraculously walking again with no negative side effects to be seen. Growing up her nickname was Suebell, named by one of her many uncles, so everyone in her mother’s family knew her as Sue. She graduated in 1949 from Hamilton High School, and went on to graduate in 1952 from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. On December 24, 1954 in Hamilton, Lois married her husband of 41 years, Willis James Jones. After graduating, Lois worked at Mercy Hospital in Hamilton in various areas of the hospital prior to becoming Head Nurse of the OR. She helped design the Cath Lab when Mercy Hospital Fairfield was being built, and then supervised Mercy Fairfield’s Central Supplies once it opened. Lois was extremely proud to be a nurse, working for over 40 years until her retirement. She accepted Christ and was baptized in 1960 at North 7th Street Church of Christ. Lois was an avid card player, especially pinochle and pitch, she loved to knit and bowl, and she enjoyed watching Westerns, especially the old black and white ones, along with movies about WWII. She liked canning and was an amazing cook, so much so that you could give her any ingredients together, and she would be able to combine them into a wonderful meal. More than anything though, Lois loved her family and enjoyed spending time relaxing with them at the family cabin on Lake Cumberland. Lois is survived by her daughters, Theresa “Kathy” Johnson and Brenda Jones-Meeks; granddaughters, Jamie Johnson and Katelyn Robinson; great-grandchildren, Jackson Hodges, Serenity Cauley, and Colton Cauley; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Carolyn Robinson; and eight brothers. A Gathering will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 2pm until 3pm at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South “D” Street, Hamilton. A Memorial Service will begin at 3pm on Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas Hale officiating. Condolences may be left for the family at www.Webb-Noonan.com
