Julia Ann "Doots" Ratliff died Wednesday October 21, 2015 in her home surrounded by her family.
Born the 6th of January 1933 in Fariston, Kentucky, she moved to Hamilton, Ohio in the early 1950s and married the love of her life James G. Ratliff and they were married for 35 years until his unfortunate passing in January of 1990
Julia, known as Mammaw to her many adoring grandchildren, devoted her life to the service of others. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and spent her life making their lives better. She loved to take care her grandchildren and do all she could to enrich the lives of others. People that knew her still rave about her "Julie Burgers" and "Eggs-in-a-frame." Julia took pride in her ability to cook and anyone that ever sampled her food will tell you that her cooking was unrivaled.
She was a devoted member of Freedom Baptist Church and took pride in assisting her fellow members any way that she could. Julia could always be counted on to help other members in their time of need. She was devoted to the Lord and loved to hear the word of God preached.
Julia was preceded in death by her husband James G. Ratliff, her son, James "Jimmy" Ratliff, parents, Achillies and Nancy, an infant sibling, and her brothers Eugene, John C., and Bill, and her sisters, Francis, Dixie, and Lucille.
Julia had an unconditional love for her family and church. She was humble, yet strong and passionately protective of those she loved. She will be remembered for her quiet dignity, calming presence, and strength in the face of adversity.
Julia is survived by her children, Rick Ratliff and wife Barb, Connie Jones and husband Rick, and Audrey Baker and husband Jeff, all of Hamilton, Ohio. She will also be remembered by six grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren: Julia Othersen (Jimmy) and their children Taylor, Ella, and Logan, "Buddy" Randy (Aris) Aragon and their children, Payton, Ayden, Rileigh Jo, Laykin, and Colton, Ashley Adams and her children, Davin, Eli, Emma, Quinton, Jimmy Baker (Sarah) and their daughters Lily and Lucy, Patty Geisz (Scott) and their son Levi, and Jordan Ratliff. Also remembering her are her sisters: Mary Jane Benge and Betty Davidson, and her brother Jesse (Sonia) Harkleroad, she'll also be remembered by her many nieces and nephews and all of the children she babysat through the years.
Funeral services will be held at the Freedom Baptist Church, 1766 Millville Avenue, Hamilton on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 10:00 AM. Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 from 5:00-8:00PM at the church.
