James “Jim” Ernest Perkins of Spring Hill, Florida, passed away on August 21, 2024. After a decades-long battle with heart disease, he left this world suddenly when his heart could no longer keep up with the love he had for his wife, family, and friends.
Jim was born on February 22, 1944, in Vancouver, WA to Henry and Daisy (Reynolds) Perkins. He graduated from Garfield High School (Hamilton, OH) in 1962 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Jim married Colleen (Wohrle) Perkins on March 20, 1965, and was a loving, caring provider for his family.
Jim was employed by General Motors as a skilled trades foreman for over 38 years. Jim was an avid golfer, willing to share his love and knowledge of the game with as many people as he could. He even accumulated three aces (hole-in-ones) due to his relentless pursuit of perfection on the golf course. After working hard all his life, he genuinely enjoyed his retirement at Timber Pines. His wife, Colleen, frequently referred to herself as a “golf widow,” since he spent so much time practicing and playing golf.
Jim was truly a renaissance man and jack-of-all-trades. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t build, repair, or repurpose. Leatherwork, beadwork, stained glass, metalwork, and woodwork are just a few of the hobbies that he mastered. Jim was always a perfectionist and never hesitated to help out a friend in need, even before they asked. He even ventured outside his comfort zone at times, participating in local plays with other Greenbriar Village residents. Jim was an active and outspoken member of his community, always willing to provide his thoughts and insights in an effort to maintain the lifestyle he loved so dearly.
Jim was preceded in death by his son, Stacey Perkins, in 1986. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Colleen; sons Shawn (Judi) Perkins, and Randy Perkins; Leigh Anne (Belt) Forthofer (Tony), who was like the daughter he never had; grandchildren Austin, Ryan, Annie, and Elizabeth; numerous step-grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, including Ernie Tuttle and Virginia Shephard. He will be missed dearly by all his family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024 from 11:00 am until Services at 1;00 pm at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 2565 Princeton Road, Hamilton, Ohio 45011.
