He was born in Canton, Ohio on February 11, 1952, the youngest child of Donald C. Myers and Clara Gean (Hill) Myers Pappas. He grew up in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida, and was a 1970 graduate of Taft Senior High School in Hamilton, Ohio.
While living in Florida after graduation, Jim worked in the orange groves. He often told his family about orchard processes, especially ‘lighting the groves’ on nights when frost was expected. He entered the Army in May, 1972 as a rough terrain equipment operator. He served in several locations, including overseas in Germany. He was honorably discharged in October, 1975.
A chance encounter while getting gas in 1992 led to his meeting Virginia Hart. She soon joined Jim in his residential and commercial painting business. They were married on May 26, 1996 and shared nearly 25 years together. They worked side-by-side until a 2006 stroke forced Jim to retire from the painting business. He was always someone who was on the look-out for a good buy, and he continued buying and selling long after his retirement. He also continued his love for baseball and the Cincinnati Reds. As always, the 2024 spring training season was much anticipated and he could be found watching every game.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Jenny; sister Donna (Edward) Hallin; step-son, Brad Puckett; niece Dr. Alexa (Jeff Sherer) Dickson; nephew, Todd G. Turner (Amanda); step-niece Amy K. (Patrick) Bach; step-brother-in-law James (Pam) Hart; step-brother-in-law Tom Hart, and more nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Robert A. Pappas; sister and brother-in-law Sally Jo and Rick Reese; step-daughter, Lisa Puckett; and sister-in-law, JoAnn Hart.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Tony Hart, Jim’s step-nephew, who was a long-time friend and companion for Jim. And many thanks go to the caring and compassionate Hospice nurses who made his last days so peaceful. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to consider a donation in Jim’s honor the Queen City Hospice.
