James William McFarland, age 88, a former resident of Fairfield for 52 years, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Birchwood Care Center. He was born on March 18, 1924 in Knox County, KY, the son of the late David Lester and Sara (Rapier) McFarland. On March 26, 1943 James married his wife of over 56 years, Sophia (McIntosh) McFarland, and she preceded him in death in May of 1999. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines during WWII. James retired as a line supervisor from Fisher Body in Fairfield after 31 years and was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church in Fairfield. He was an avid gardener and especially loved his roses. James is survived by his children, Mildred Omega (KD) Hall, Marilyn Sue (Bart) Fisher and Gina (Christian) Conrad; grandchildren, Kim (Ski), Angie (Jamie), Kris (Keith) and Lindsey (David); granddaughter-in-law, Peggy; and great-grandchildren, Erika, Kameron, Sam, Taylor, Korrina, Callie and Lily. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, James Michael McFarland; grandson, Ty; and five siblings. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 12noon until 2pm at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South “D” Street, Hamilton. Service to immediately follow at 2pm, officiated by Pastor Kevin Carpenter. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
