James Edward Barkley, age 80, resident of New Miami, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at Hospice of Hamilton. He was born on September 4, 1940 in Hamilton, the son, of the late Oscar and Novella (Davis) Barkley. James spent most of his life in law enforcement and was a U.S. Army Veteran. Raised in new Miami, where he attended school and served as a New Miami Police Officer in the past, as well as other jobs. James also owned and operated The Stag Bar. He attended Stahlheber Road Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, an all-around jokester and a suave dancer of the 50’s music. James is survived by his children, Regina (Jimmy) Lawson, Tonya (Doug) Barnhill, Bo Barkley and David Barkley; siblings, Jack S. Barkley, Marla (Steve) Cupp, Debbie (Larry) Southard, Richard W. Barkley, Beverly S. Glancy and Lesa R. Barkley; 8 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; special great nephews, Landen, Liam and Luke Dille; special niece Roxanna McQueen; lifelong friend, Don Gilbert and good neighbors. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert W. Barkley; grandson, Kyle Hurst; great granddaughter, Aubry Hurst and stepmother, Juanita Barkley. Gathering for family and friends will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021 from 12-1pm with Memorial Ceremony to follow with Pastor John Wallen officiating.
