Howard Abney went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 28, 2012. He was born on August 17, 1928 to John and Anna (Robinson) Abney in Orlando, KY. Howard was raised and educated in Rockcastle County. He served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1949. Howard retired from Fernald as a supervisor in security. In his early years, he enjoyed boating and skiing in the beautiful Kentucky Lakes and later in life, fishing in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota. His greatest love though was his church, where he served as Deacon, treasurer and song leader. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clelan “Dick” Abney and Ralph Abney; first wife, Shirley (Newberry) Abney and their daughter Terri Lynn; and second wife, Carolyn (Scott) Abney. He leaves behind his wife of over 43 years, Pauline (Franz) Abney; son, Steven Abney; daughter, Lisa (John) Sunderhaus; daughter, Jenny (Marion) Wright; granddaughter, Sarah (Michael) Wysong; great-grandson, Garrett Wysong; daughter, Carol (Ken) Enderle; granddaughter, Tina Rydholm; brothers, Joe Abney and Hubert (Kathleen) Abney; sisters, Geneva Jones and Edna Cate; sister-in-law, Jo Ellen Abney; numerous loving nieces and nephews; special friends, Ed and Betty Gentry; and a good bunch of golfing buddies. The family would like to send special thanks to Dr. Pater with UC Oncology and the caregivers at Hospice of Hamilton. A Funeral Service with Masonic Services will be held at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South “D” Street, Hamilton on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at 1pm with Pastor Orville Roach officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11am until the time of the service.
