David Holton Ashby, died the other day. David was born in Xenia, Ohio in July of 1939 to James Burtt and Crystel Holton Ashby. He graduated from Fairview High School in 1957 and attended Miami University earning a Bachelor's degree in 1961 and Master's degree in 1967. He was a member of the Alpha Chapter of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. David was employed by the Dayton Public Schools as a teacher and supervisor of curriculum and instruction for his entire 30-year professional career. His avocation centered on high school athletics. Dave was a registered soccer official as well as a track and field /cross country official. He served as a meet manager in cross-country and in track and field. David will be remembered by many for his voice. He served as the Welcome Stadium public address announcer of high school football, track and field, and soccer for more than 35 years. Dave also served as announcer of boys and girls basketball for Paul Laurence Dunbar and Trotwood Madison High Schools. David is survived by 2 daughters: Amy L. Hayes [Douglas] and Ginger L. Homan (John]; 4 wonderful grandchildren: Alex (Maclana Mowry), lan (Nadia DiMarco) and Emily Hayes; and Avery Homan; 2 brothers: Dr. Jon K. Ashby of Abilene, TX and James B. Ashby [Melodee] of Lebanon, OH; his sister: Mary Ann Willis [Gary] of Plano, TX; as well as three nephews, four nieces, a grandniece and a grandnephew.
