MARR, William Ernest Barry “Billy”-age 46, of Dartmouth passed away in peace with his Dad and partner by his side on April 4, 2024 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Halifax he was a son of Barry and the late Maureen (MacRoberts) Marr.
Billy graduated from Humber College with an Ontario Fire Marshall’s Degree, he then began his career with the Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Service in 1999. Throughout his career he proudly served HRM, most recently at Station 18, and he quickly rose through the ranks. In 2008 he was promoted to Captain, one of the youngest ever promoted in the Halifax Fire Service. Throughout his firefighting career he taught and competed in many vehicle extrication teams as well as volunteered with the track rescue team at Scotia Speedworld.
His second passion was hockey, his love for the sport was immeasurable. He was heavily involved with Hockey Nova Scotia, where he held several positions including Equipment Manager, he was part of the HNS High Performance Program, Team Atlantic Program, the Yarmouth Mariners and the Halifax Mooseheads. Outside of Hockey Nova Scotia Billy volunteered for the IIHF, the Toronto Maple Leafs training camp, the Alberta Golden Bears and Ball Hockey Canada. He was tremendously proud of his championship rings from the Alberta Golden Bears and the Yarmouth Mariners.
Outside of work and hockey Billy loved the outdoors, especially fishing. He could often be found fishing at 5am before starting a shift.
Above all else, his proudest accomplishments were his sons, Noah and Brody, always striving to be a role model for them and encouraging them. He instilled in them the motto “I can do anything”
Billy was an inspiration to so many and he left a positive impact on so many lives. He will be forever loved and missed.
He is survived by his father, Barry; sons, Noah and Brody; brother, Dennis; his loving aunt, Darlene Sellars; girlfriend, Tanya MacPhee; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and a large circle of friends.
He was predeceased by his mother, Maureen (MacRoberts) Marr.
Visitation will be held on Saturday April 13 from 6-9pm in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Funeral Service will be on Sunday April 14 at 2PM in Woodlawn United Church, 54 Woodlawn Road, Dartmouth. Reception to follow.
