Valerie Marilyn Little, 72, died February 10, 2023, due to lung cancer complications, 12 days short of her 73rd birthday. The daughter of Harold and Cecelia (Boudreau) Little, Valerie was born and raised in Halifax. Val attended Saint Mary's Girls' School and Saint Patrick's High. She worked in the banking industry, retiring from the Bank of Montreal/Symcor in 2005. Valerie was a resident of various communities, Halifax’s south end, Dartmouth Westphal, and Hammonds Plain. She was quick to introduce herself to her neighbours and become engaged within the community. Remaining single, Valerie was always ready for any family function; she enjoyed and entertained many “nieces and nephews” over the years. Notorious for noisy Christmas gifts, Val’s siblings shuddered when their children opened gifts from Aunt Val. Valerie immensely enjoyed the beach and over the past few years completed a bucket list item with a beach side RV. An innate caregiver, she, with her sister, Linda, provided for her parents as they entered their declining years and later provided loving support for her maternal uncle. Val is survived by siblings, Jon, Linda, Paul. Pamela, and Robert; nieces and nephews Douglas, Janis, Brandon, Madeleine, Amber and (Paul) Samuel. Valerie was predeceased by parents Harold and Cecelia (Boudreau), maternal uncle Henry (Boudreau), sister Sharon (Hume) and infant siblings Arthur and Cecelia. The family wants to thank friends Eddie and Lyne, Gail and Harry, Heather and Paul, Jim and Sharon and neighbours for their help and love, particularly over the last few months as Val’s health declined. Val smiled and even shed joyful tears as she mentioned your efforts. Thanks are given as well to VG Chaplin, Helen whose work gave much comfort to Val and for the wonderful efforts of her medical team as Val battled her disease (Dr. Abdullah Qureshi, home Palliative Care nurses Shannon Purcell & Devon Hennigar, the VG staff of 5A and its palliative care unit).
A celebration of Val’s life will take place on February 23, at 10 AM at St. Mary's Basilica ( to be live streamed). A reception will follow the service. Cremation has taken place. The burial will follow at Sunrise Cemetery, Prospect Road. There will be no visitation by request. Family flowers only. Donations to your Canadian Cancer Society or to favourite charity appreciated. Val would want you to hug and appreciate those closest to you. Funeral services entrusted to J A Snow, Lacewood Dr., Halifax.
