Survived by his parents, Maria Desjardins, Nicholas Rahr (Judy Robichaud); sisters Alexandra Rahr (Andrew Adams), Sarah Rahr, Maggie Rahr (Jack Julian) and Beth Rahr; cousin Natalie Rahr (Andrew Tait); aunts Winifred Desjardins, Yolanta Desjardins and Estrella Rahr; and his adored nephews Teddy & Rudy. Thompson also leaves behind a second family of loyal and loving friends, who share our grief in his loss.
Despite health challenges, Thompson was determined to live a full life to the very end. He had a deep and sustaining appreciation of the natural world, music and the company of good friends. Thompson was also an avid volunteer who contributed to his community through work with various music festivals, the food bank, Voiceprint and other organizations.
The family would particularly like to thank the health care professionals who cared for Thompson over so many years with compassion, dedication and skill, especially those on the dialysis unit and Unit 6B at the VG Hospital.
A wake will be held at Cruikshank's Funeral Home at 2666 Windsor St, Halifax on Wednesday, October 28th, 2015 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Committal of the ashes and a celebration of Thompson's life will take place on July 30th, 2016.
As Thompson himself said many times in his last days, the love of family and friends is the only thing that matters.
In lieu of flowers, Thompson requested donations be made to Emerald Hall through the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.
