Age 78, of Lower Sackville - our beloved Tommy, surrounded by his wife, Chris and family members, peacefully passed away at the Dartmouth General Hospital T.C. Unit from a battle with Alzheimer’s. Born in New Glasgow, NS, he was a son the late George W. Jewell and Florence E. (DeYoung) Jewell.
Tommy was employed with Canada Post for 38 years before retiring and was a Commissionaire for three years. As a young man, Tommy enjoyed singing in many musical groups where he was lead singer for many years. He loved to sing, dance. He also enjoyed tennis and golf. He taught swimming which he enjoyed very much. He loved to play cards, especially crib. He loved to socialize with all his friends. He also loved to work in his garden planting flowers. Tommy enjoyed life to the fulliest. His best friend, Max, “Doggie Doggie” gave him much enjoyment and comfort.
Survived by his wife Christine Shirley (Lindsay) Jewell; sisters Dela (Clinton) Adams, Sharon (Mike) Jewell-Duffy, Janice(Rick) Lee, North Carolina; sister-in-law Cathy Jewell; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and also great-great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Florence (DeYoung) Jewell; brother, George (“Dunc”) Jewell; sisters, Mary (“Sissy”) Kane, Annie Curley, Constance (Connie) Royal; and half-sister, Ida Mae Talbot.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday April 15 from 7-9 pm at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, 455-0531. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 16 at 11:00 am at St. John Vianny, Lower Sackville, with Father Roberto Donato and Father Mark Syrenne officiating. Reception to follow in Church Hall. Burial will be at a later date in New Glasgow.
In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or charity of choice.
