Of Halifax, died on November 18, 2022. Born November 17, 1935 in Vancouver, he was the son of Allen James and Martha Eleanor(Burley) Creighton. He was a graduate UBC, BA (1956) and Education.
He taught in BC and then began working for the YMCA, first in Cornwall, Ontario, then in Halifax as Boys Work Secretary 1963-70 and Big Cove Camp Director 1966-1972. He was then employed by the Halifax County School Board at both Graham Creighton and Cole Harbour High Schools from 1972-1989.
Tom served on the NS Teachers Credit Union Board from 1975-2003 (some terms as president). He also served on the Credit Union Central Board of NS, the Heritage Advisory Committee of Halifax City (later HRM), and the Nova Scotia and Canadian Camping Association Boards.
He was involved with Brunswick Street United Church, United Memorial Church, and Hope United Church. He sang for many years in the choirs, and especially enjoyed his weekly outings with choir members and friends at Tim Hortons to tell a tale or two.
Tom and his wife Blanche enjoyed their cottage at Shortts lake and hosted many summer gatherings of friends, family and coworkers. He had a passion for writing letters-to-the-editor to the local papers, writing nearly 1000 letters over 25 years. Tom was a local supporter of the Ecology Action Centre and a life member of the NDP.
He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Blanche Alden Potter Creighton, and his two brothers Frank and William, both of BC. He is survived by Blanche’s children Jack, Paul(Cathy), Brenda, of Halifax, and niece Eleanor Creighton of BC. Tom was an 8th generation descendant of James Creighton who came to Halifax in 1749.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Berkeley (Gladstone) for their kindness and care to Tom, also a deep gratitude to Mario Amoroso for his vigil and comfort to Tom in his last days… and thanks to the staff of 8.4 Halifax Infirmary.

A funeral service will be held at Hope United Church on December 1 at 11:00 with a reception to follow in the hall.
