Susan Eleanor Ritcey

It is with great sadness that the family of Susan Eleanor Ritcey, 73, announces her passing on July 21, 2015, surrounded by loved ones. She died after a brave and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

Born in Halifax June 5, 1942, she was one of four children of the late Harold "Hal" and the late Elisabeth "Lib" Connor (Saunderson) of Halifax. Sue is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, David; children, Michael (Andrea), Mark (Melissa) and Janet (Rob); siblings: Sara Smith (Randall) and Denis Connor (Susan Eisenhauer-Connor); granddaughters: Grace, Lia, Erika, Annie and Maddie as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by elder sister, Ann Brimer (Scott Wood), infant son, “Buster” and son, Scott.

Sue attended Halifax schools; graduated from Dalhousie University with a BSc (Chemistry), a BEd and later a BCom. She was an Alpha Gamma Delta. She completed several Canadian Securities Courses and attained the Certified Investment Manager designation. Mum was a devoted loving mother, proud of her children’s individual achievements. Sue was a kind generous person which led to her being heavily involved in many volunteer organizations: Cathedral Committee of Consultation and Advice, Halifax Protestant Infants Foundation, Ashburn Golf Club Board, Edward Jost Children’s Centre, Jost Mission, Junior League, and Swim Nova Scotia. She was an avid golfer, tennis player, skier, sailor, fly fisher, swimmer, duplicate bridge player and Book Club member.

Visitation will be in J.A. Snow Funeral Home at 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax on Monday, July 27th 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday, July 28th 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Cremation has taken place, family committal before the service. Funeral will be at Cathedral Church of All Saints, 1330 Martello St., Halifax, Wednesday, July 29th at 2 p.m. – reception to follow in the Great Hall.
