Our hearts have been broken to hear of the passing of Steve Scott.  Our three children were both taught by and coached by Steve at St. Agnes Junior High.  We have traveled with Steve for basketball tournaments and participated with him at too many school functions to count.  You could always be assured that Steve would attend all school functions whether sports-related, string night, spring fairs or any of the many other activities to which Steve gave his time.  He was an all-around great teacher and, more importantly, great person. The school community of Halifax at large, but particularly the St. Agnes Junior High Community, has lost a very devoted and caring teacher.  Steve was one of the very best and our family will never forget his teachings and kindness.  Rest in peace Steve. I had the pleasure of meeting Steve this year at the NSSAF awards luncheon and again at St. Agnes.  He was nothing but friendly, easy to get along with and great with the students that were in his care. Dear Jack, Kenny, David and Kevin, I was so sad to hear the news of Steven's passing from a close friend from Dominion. Being from a small town like Dominion and graduating from the same high school its hard not to remember such a great guy like Steve. Steve was a grade or two above me but would always take the time to smile at you and say"hello". Being a teacher myself I appreciate the sincere love and dedication he had for his school and students. Please accept our condolences on the passing of a wonderful teacher Mr Scott. I am a parent of three boys attending St Agnes this fall. My oldest son was looking forward to having Mr Scott as his teacher. Most of the kids in grade nine when asked who's class do you want to be in always said Mr Scott that speaks volumes. I did not know him that well but can see the grief that this loss has caused to the school the community and to many families. My family is very saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Scott. My three university aged daughters and I are profoundly grateful for the role he played in their growth and development during their junior high school years. He was a teacher, mentor, role model and friend. He coached my daughters in soccer, volleyball, basketball, and baseball, generously giving his time year after year. The grade 9 trip and sports road trips were always a highlight. My daughters have all developed a love of math as a result of his teaching skills. As a parent I am very thankful for his role in helping to shape their future. He epitomized the phrase It takes a village to raise a child. I was lucky when I was 7 to move to the street next to the Scott family..Steve was younger by a few years but I could see his love for baseball matched mine....He was made batboy with Jamie Mac D the first year I played for the Reds....Us neighbourhood kids played outdoor sport in the fields and ponds around our homes in the day and every kids game there was in the evenings...One day we would be on the gridiron in the yard next to the Scott families and later that evening we were traffic cops on our pedal bikes patrolling Ocean View ...Stevie joins Eric now warming up, waiting for us all to join them in the biggest game of baseball or road hockey of them all..I am not surprised that he turned out to be such a giant for kids, his parents rocked when we were kids....My condolences to the family and friends on their loss..

A teacher makes a world of difference to their students no matter their quirky methods. Their lessons stay with their students for life, despite them often times only being in ours for a few short months.

I had the pleasure of having Mr. Scott as a volleyball coach for two years in 04/05 and 05/06, and he opened the door to my talent and pushed me to be better. He never picked us up when we fell, but gave us the strength to keep going and show what we were really made of.

Very sad to hear of Steve's passing. I'll remember him as a friend since grade primary who was not only a  good athlete, but a  good guy with a great sense of humour. It's easy to believe that he would have been very kind to his students.  Condolences to Jack and his family.
