RUMSEY, Thelma “Shirley” – 79, of Halifax. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Rumsey; our loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt whose beautiful blue eyes will never be forgotten.
Born in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late Ralph Edward and Norma Antoinette King. She worked for the Halifax District School Board and was instrumental in creating the Hot Lunch Program at Bloomfield School. Her love of animals was undeniable; especially the love she had for her great grand dog “Bonnie” who provided her with many special moments. Her quick wit and spunky sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by and will be forever loved and missed by her daughters, Deborah (Micheal) MacKenzie, Beaver Bank, Holly Rumsey and special niece Heather Rumsey, Halifax; granddaughters Erika MacDonald, Calgary and Jenna MacDonald, Halifax; sisters Georgina (Donald) Worsfold, British Columbia; Faylene Logan, Florida; and brother Henry (Paula) King, Nine Mile River and nieces Liana, Susan and Cheryl.
The family would like to thank the QEII Palliative Care Team, the wonderful nurses at the VON and the Northwood Home Care workers who cared so dearly for her.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax on Friday, October 19, 2012 from 1-3pm. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses or the Canadian Red Cross.
