Shirley Gertrude Purcell

Purcell, Shirley Gertrude “Nanny”- 92, Halifax. It is with profound sadness that we announce Shirley’s passing on September 20, 2023 in the presence of her loving family, to whom she was devoted. She is survived by her daughter, Joy Earle (Elizabeth Gordon); granddaughters Leanne McCarron (Paul) and Angela Earle; great-grandchildren, Spencer, Isabel and Graeme McCarron; sister, Margie Fisher (Jimmy); and former son-in-law Bob Earle. She was predeceased by her husband Edgar Purcell; mother-in-law Edna Purcell; her parents James and Martha McIsaac; brothers Archie, Phil, Gordie, Jackie, Ronnie and sister Eunie. Sincere gratitude to the caring staff of Northwood 5 Manor.

Nanny loved spending time with her family and seeing what her grandchildren were up to. At any given time, you could find her in her chair watching either curling or golf, drinking a cup of tea or a diet Pepsi. After she moved into Northwood, she led an active social life - most recently having earned the award for always being Dressed to the Nines. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Friday, September 29, 2023 at St. Mother Teresa of Kolkata Church (formerly St. Stephens), 6032 Normandy Drive, Halifax. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Christmas Daddies.
