46, of Halifax, NS, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, November 5 in Halifax. Born in Halifax, he was the son of Audrey (Duggan) McNeil and Bryant McNeil, both of Halifax.
Shaun was a lifelong resident of Halifax/Dartmouth. He worked as a forklift operator/warehouseman for several local companies including Scanwood, Lighthouse and Clarke Transport. For the past two years, he also volunteered with his Mom (his best friend) with the Halifax Poppy Fund. Shaun played baseball and hockey in his youth, and his love of sports continued into adulthood, especially NFL football and NASCAR. Although he enjoyed his own company, Shaun looked forward to his Saturday night card “socials” with his buddies, most friends since his childhood, and his trips to Tim’s for coffee and conversation with his Mom.
Shaun is also survived by his sister, Heather Haney, and her husband John, Rick Walden, Diane McNeil, aunts, Rita Judge, Francine Simpson, Alice Swan, Cathy McNeil and Freda Kennedy, along with a large extended family.
Shaun was predeceased by maternal grandparents Leo (Hap) and Elizabeth (Giles) Duggan, and paternal grandparents, John and Freda (Matheson) McNeil.
A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax on Saturday, November 9 at 11:00 am, with reception to follow. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shaun’s memory to the Halifax Poppy fund or a charity of your choice.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Jimmy, Larry and Mike, Shaun’s friends since childhood who stood by Shaun and were so good to him when life wasn’t always. You were his brothers.
