Born in Toronto, ON in 1927, he was the son of the late Sinclair Wilson Alford and Jeanette Scott of Toronto.
Jim was the co-owner of Atlantic Packing Limited in Halifax and Windsor for many years until he retired to Florida for 18 years. He was a longstanding member of Avon Valley Golf Club and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Toronto. He loved playing cards with the boys and their yearly trip to Digby Pines. Jim is remembered for his sense of humour, which he maintained until the end.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara (Batchelor) Alford; three daughters, Patricia (Ted), Halifax; Joan, Toronto; Nancy (Dave), Halifax; seven grandchildren, Mark (Robyn), Adam (Kara), Heather (Jeff), Meaghan (Alex), Jen, Alexandra, Ian; four great grandchildren, Grace, Jack, Kathyrn, John; sister, Mildred Sears, Toronto; brother, Robert, Texas and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brother, Jack (Toronto) and best friend, Dan O’Connor.
By the family’s request, cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 27th from 7-8:30 pm at J.A.Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax 455-0531 and from where Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, June 28th at 2PM with Rev. Trent Cleveland-Thompson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Salvation Army.
