Born in Halifax, Ruth was the daughter of the late Laura Mabel (Smith) and James Austin Noonan.
Ruth accomplished many things in her life. In 1948 she was chosen as one of only two representatives to attend Summer School of Catholic Action at Loyola University in Montreal, in 1975 she graduated as a mature student from Mount Saint Vincent Academy with a degree in Home Economics Education and in 1997 she received her 20 Years of Service Award with Sears. She was a member of the Canadian Girls in Training, church choir, Skating Assembly, student government and an Alumnae of Mount Saint Vincent Academy. While a student at the MSV Boarding School, Ruth created a collection of historical photos which she donated to MSVU. During her retirement she took this passion up again by becoming a member of the Archive Group of the churches that amalgamated to become Saint Benedict’s Parish.
Ruth was known for her cooking and sewing skills, scrapbooking, card making, painting, Catholic devotion, storytelling, generosity, love of children, fondness of cats, scrabble nights with her girlfriends, and most of all her nurturing demeanor and patience that came from being a mother of six and a teacher.
