He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years Eulah (Shellnutt), son, Scott Martin and great grandson Max Martin. Survived by son David (Becky). Three grandchildren, Adam (Kim) Martin, Josh (Ashley) Martin and Michelle Martin. Great grandchildren Jude, River, Blake and Brook Martin, Ava and Grayson Baker Martin.
He attended Morris Street School and Queen Elizabeth High School, graduating in 1947. Roy joined Northern Electric that same year. In 1953 he was transferred to Moncton, NB and became branch manager in 1956. He was transferred back to Halifax in 1966 as the Nova Scotia Branch manager, in 1972 he became General Manager of the Atlantic Region and was later named Vice President. In 1997 The Nedco Division of Northern Electric was purchased by Westburne, and Roy assumed responsibility for all Westburne operations in Atlantic Canada in addition to his former responsibilities with Nedco. He later became Vice-President and Director of this company. For a number of years he was President of the Canadian Electrical Distribution Association. He retired in 1997.
Roy was active in community affairs. He was Warden at St. James Anglican Church, Halifax, chairman of the Saraguay Club, and an active member of the Halifax Rotary Club for many years and was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
He curled at the Mayflower Club in Halifax and was a member of the Oakfield and Chester Golf Clubs. In recent years he had become a social member at the Ashburn Golf Club in Halifax. Roy and Eulah spent many happy hours at their cottage in Moncton, NB and later in their summer home on Marvin’s Island in Chester Basin, making many friends at both locations.
A Memorial will take place at J A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS., Monday March 21st, at 10 AM., followed by a reception. Interment at Fairview Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
