It is with heavy hearts we share the passing of Ronald Davis Simms. He was the youngest child of Earl and Vivian (Jollymore) Simms. Ronald is survived by his wife of 52 years, Doris (Melanson) Simms, daughter Lisa (Simms) MacIntyre, son-in-law John MacIntyre, grandchildren Ryan and Paige MacIntyre, brother Albert (Diana) Simms of Simms Settlement as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ronald was predeceased by his parents, brothers Malcolm, Welsley, Gordon, George, John, sisters Julie, Carol and several infant siblings.
As the youngest child of 14, Ronald learned to be independent and was very determined to succeed. He started working at a young age for the Mersey Paper Company. He then found himself in Ontario for a short period of time, doing odd jobs and discovered his passion for selling cars. On his return to Nova Scotia, Ronald had various jobs from car salesman, to sales manager, to opening his own independent used car lot and finally to ownership of two Automobile Dealerships, Suzuki of Halifax and Hyundai in Middleton.
Following a heart attack, Ronald retired from the car industry and found his second passion, the game of golf, spending many winters with Doris in South Carolina and his summers at Oakfield Golf and Country Club and Hubbards, N.S. with family and friends.
He was diagnosed with cancer two years ago and fought a brave battle but could not win. He was in palliative care for the seven months at the V.G. hospital. Special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and aides on 7a for the compassion and care they extended him.
Visitation will be at J.A. Snows Funeral home, Lacewood Drive, Tuesday September 20, 9-10 am with service at 10 a.m. followed by reception.
