Robert (Bob) Anthony Leahey – age 62 passed away peacefully on Friday, March 17, 2023, in the Coronary Care Unit of the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax. Born in Windsor, NS he was the seventh child of the late Arthur and Marjorie (Browne) Leahey.
A cherished husband, brother, uncle, and friend. Bob is survived by his adoring wife of 40 years and high school sweetheart Eileen Leahey (Driscoll). His godchildren Megan, Emily, Ben, and Shai who he loved and cared for as his own. Siblings Madeleine (Howard Snow); Shelagh; Jim (Ann Mann); Brenda (Harry Young); Kathy (Gus Nikoletsos); Terry (Rebecca Lancaster); sister-in-law Marion Leahey; and in-laws Madge and the now late David Driscoll Sr. As well as many loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his brother Tom Leahey, nephews Michael (godson) and Jamie Leahey, and niece Sarah Snow.
Bob was a proud graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas School and then St. Patrick’s High School, where he excelled in football and lacrosse while wooing Eileen. After earning his mechanical engineering degree from Dalhousie University and TUNS, Bob followed in his father’s footsteps and had a successful career with D & L Engineering Sales before illness lead to an early retirement. Bob was a humorous prankster with a huge heart and a gentle soul. He valued family time, travel, a sandy beach, virtuous conversation, meals around the table, an exciting football game or tennis match, and daily walks with his true love. It is only fitting that Bob left us on one of his favourite holidays, St. Patrick’s Day. Cheers to you Bob, we know you are enjoying a few beers!
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Cruikshank’s Halifax Funeral Home. A private family inurnment will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Halifax. Help us celebrate Bob on Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 2:00pm - 4:00pm at Convoy Estates - 5524 Heatherwood Court, Halifax, NS B3K 5N7. We encourage you to wear blue and share tales of Bob’s inspirational journey through life while enjoying a few of Bob’s favourite things including chocolate, laughter, and music to name a few.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bob can be made to Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, or to the QEII Foundation and directed to the Coronary Care Unit (6.4) for the purchase of equipment at the discretion of the nursing staff.
The family would like to thank HRFE (Station #5), EHS, the QEII emergency department, and the QEII Coronary Care Unit including Dr. Daniel Belliveau, Dr. Ian Grant and all the wonderful staff for their exhaustive, and dedicated care ensuring Bobs last few days with us were as peaceful as possible.
