Though a teacher by trade, Pyara’s real passion was to build. In the 1970s, he played an instrumental role in the construction of the first Gurdwara (Sikh Temple) in Atlantic Canada, the successful completion of which inspired Pyara to pivot from teaching to a life in development. A work passion he maintained until his last project, the complete tear down and rebuild of the Gurdwara in Halifax.
Reading, badminton and tennis, bridge and chess, and seva (community service), these are things Pyara loved to fill his leisure time with. Most cherished of all was a good laugh shared with family and friends. He is survived by his sons Navpreet and Navdeep, daughter in law Harveer, and granddaughters Kaureen and Jasmeen. He was predeceased by his wife Satnam and daughter Navjot (Vicki).
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Maritime Sikh Society or the Multiple Sclerosis Society would be very much appreciated, as both organizations played a pivotal role in Pyara’s life as they do to countless others.
A visitation for Pyara will be held Sunday, April 13, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS B3S0E1, followed by a memorial service at 10:00 AM.
