On April 18, 2012, Philipp was finally allowed to rest after a lengthy, but valiant, struggle with Parkinson’s disease. Born on April 19, 1926 in Berlin, Germany, he was the eldest son of the late Georg Wurceldorf and Ida (Peck) Welford. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Peter Valentin Welford, in March 2012.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Ruth Eleanor (Duffy), his children Georgina Kelman (Mark) New York City, Victoria Welford (Martin) Gatineau, Quebec, nephew Malcolm Welford (Christine) California and step-children Beverley Lockhart (Lynn) Beaverbrook, NB, Cynthia Parker, Bridgewater NS as well as many step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will take place at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Monday, April 23, 2012 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm followed by the celebration of Philipp’s life. Reception to follow, so please bring along your stories and memories to share along with your sweet tooth.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made, in his memory, to the Faculty of Engineering, Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS or to the Parkinsons Society of Canada.
