Nancy Lou Legge, R.N. (Nee Baird) of Halifax, NS passed away peacefully at Saint Vincent's Nursing Home on February 22, 2023. Nancy was the youngest child of Harold and Mae Baird of Windsor, NS. She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings Helen, Dorothy, Anna, Kathleen and Bill. She is survived by her brother Dr. Robert Baird, her husband William Richard Legge, her children Julie Ann Dugie (Daniel), Daniel Gordon (Cindy) and William Donald (Mila); her grandchildren Matthew, Brian, Anna, Robyn, Ellen, Thomas, and Bob; and great grandchild Everett.
Nancy graduated from the Victoria General School of Nursing in 1960 as a Registered Nurse. She practiced as an RN at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax and the Queen Mary Veteran’s Hospital in Montreal. She also worked in a private allergy clinic in Montreal. In later years, she re-certified her nursing degree and returned to work in Halifax. She maintained many close bonds with her nursing colleagues over the years.
Nancy’s joy was raising her children and grandchildren with unconditional love and deep involvement. Her boundless creativity was evident in her prolific knitting, crocheting, and painting. Nancy was gregarious and enjoyed organizing card clubs and knitting clubs. She was a dedicated volunteer at the IWK for many years and also worked as a nutritionist.
Nancy was a very gentle, beautiful lady. She took comfort in her faith and exuded a quiet strength. Nancy inspired her family with her self-advocation for prioritizing mental health. Nancy took an active role in managing her diagnosis of Alzheimer’s with unbridled resilience and optimism.
Nancy loved to play golf and sold the game to her husband Richard. They spent many hours perfecting their hobby on the Geizer's Hill driving range. They shared many happy days on the nine-hole golf courses of NS, NB and PEI.
Rest in the peace you so deserve, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Our hearts will carry you with us always.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society Nova Scotia or Nova Scotia Humane Society (SPCA). Celebration of life service will take place Thursday, March 2 at 10:00 am at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Reception to follow.
